Producer Profile: Brangero

Marco Brangero runs this family estate in Diano d’Alba, taking the traditions inherited from his father and contributing his own modernizing influence. This forward-thinking approach has allowed Brangero to bring his family company to new levels of quality.

Diano d’Alba sits between Barolo and Barbaresco, just south of the town of Alba. This sub-region has a very close relationship with the Dolcetto variety, one of the historic grapes of Piedmont. Its position within the Langhe region is also ideally suited to growing the other two major Piemontese red grapes; Nebbiolo, and Barbera.

In addition to the main estate perched on a hill in Diano d’Alba, Marco sources fruit from a number of other areas in the Langhe, including Verduno and Serralunga, where he takes Nebbiolo for his Barolo wines. As per the DOCG rules, he vinifies the Barolo in a separate winery within the confines of the Barolo, in the town of Barolo in fact.

Whilst modern winemaking is a feature of the estate, Brangero continues to uphold the traditions of previous generations, preferring to limit intervention as much as possible. This is very notable with regards to his Barolo wine, which sees long maceration on skins and extended time in barrel.

These are wines designed to last, but also to appeal to the modern palate.
